Data Retrosight handles
When you enable capture and grant the in-product permission, Retrosight may read and locally store the following information from supported feed cards:
- Visible titles, descriptions, link-preview text, and image descriptions supplied by the website.
- The destination URL and stable item identifier.
- The site and available source metadata, such as a subreddit, channel, page, or person name.
- When the item was seen, how long it qualified as visible, and how many times it was seen.
Retrosight also stores local settings, the privacy-notice version you accepted, and temporary on-device capture-health counts used in its popup.
Retrosight does not intentionally collect comments, direct messages, text typed into forms, passwords, authentication tokens, cookies, full-page screenshots, or downloaded image or video files. Adapters are limited to supported feed cards. Sponsored cards are excluded where the supported site exposes a recognizable advertising marker.
How the data is used
The captured information is used only to display your temporary Recently Seen history, prevent duplicate entries, and reopen an item at its original website. It is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or any unrelated purpose.
Storage, retention, and deletion
Seen-item history is stored in IndexedDB inside your Chrome profile. Settings and the privacy-notice acknowledgment are stored in chrome.storage.local; temporary capture-health information is stored in chrome.storage.session.
Free history has a rolling one-hour retention period. Retrosight schedules automatic deletion for the earliest expiration, cleans up after new captures and settings changes, and checks again when Chrome starts. Chrome cannot run an extension while the device is asleep, so an item whose deadline passes during sleep is deleted after Chrome resumes.
You can immediately delete all history with Clear history. Removing the extension removes its extension-owned local storage under Chrome’s normal extension lifecycle.
Transmission and sharing
Retrosight has no developer-operated server and does not upload captured history, settings, or usage telemetry. The developer therefore does not receive, sell, rent, share, or permit human access to this information.
Clicking a saved result performs ordinary navigation to the original website. That website then handles the visit under its own privacy practices.
Site access and your controls
The extension runs only on the supported Chrome origins declared in its manifest: Reddit, YouTube, and Facebook. Page observation does not begin until you select Allow capture after reading the in-product disclosure.
Reddit and YouTube are selected by default. Facebook is off until you enable it. A disabled site is not scanned or observed. Capture can be paused globally at any time.
Permissions
- Site access for Reddit, YouTube, and Facebook
- Recognizes supported feed cards and extracts the small set of fields needed for Recently Seen.
- Storage
- Keeps history, settings, and temporary health information inside the Chrome profile.
- Alarms
- Schedules automatic expiration of locally retained history.
Retrosight does not request access to browser tabs, browsing-history APIs, downloads, cookies, identity, location, camera, microphone, or incognito mode.
Limited Use
Retrosight’s use of information obtained through Chrome and supported webpages is limited to providing its disclosed Recently Seen feature and adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes
If Retrosight materially changes what data it handles or how that data is used, the change will be disclosed before the new practice begins, and a new in-product acknowledgment may be required.
